OBITUARY AND DONATIONS

On April 19, 1932, Gilbert (lovingly known as Gilly) was born in Clarendon, Jamaica, to Henry and Rebecca Groves. He was the fourth of their six children.

Gilly attended Dinthill Technical High School in Jamaica and worked for Yarmouth Sugar Estate, Alcan Jamaica Limited-Ewarton, and Kirkvine-Manchester, before migrating to New York City in the early 1980s.

He finally retired in Miami, Florida, after relocating there. Gilly was well-known for his generosity and kindness, as well as his love of dominoes, soccer, cricket, and a good card game. Gilly’s many friends and family will miss him dearly.

Gilly’s daughter, Arlene Groves Sewell, predeceased him and he leaves behind daughter Olivia Munro, son Gary Groves, sister Sheila Groves, grandchildren Lorin Munro, Jr, Christopher Groves, Danielle Sewell and great grandchild Jaycee Groves; numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members.
